Do you think you're crazy about changing people's names all the time? Don't worry, everyone goes through this situation. American university study reveals why this happens.

It happens a lot.
You see the person coming, know you know him, open his mouth and end up saying the wrong name.
And it doesn't even have to be someone from a distant past, since we can forget even the name of the children.
According to a study by Duke University (United States), this forgetting of names follows a pattern.
Among people who know each other well, changing the name is common among the same relationship category.
Friends change your name to other friends.
So family members confuse the names of… family members.
And it was proved: among this last group the dog is included, but only if the pet is really a dog (not for cats and others).
Similar names add to the confusion, but physical similarities had no influence.
After all, parents tend to change the names of their children, even of different ages and genders.
The survey reviewed five separate papers with 1,700 participants.
"This is a common cognitive error," explained one of the study's authors, neuroscience professor David Rubin.
"Which reveals whether we consider the person you refer to as part of the group."
So it does not happen by accident.
The study was published in the scientific journal Memory and Cognition.
