With a foot in design and another in the fine arts, Najla El Zein created this grand and delicate installation. No less than 5,000 handmade paper pinwheels were used to compose Wind Portal.
Software controls the tubes supporting the weather vane, causing them to blow air from time to time to move the assembly. The designer herself posted a video on YouTube where you can get an idea of the effect it causes:
The facility is located at the Victoria and Albert Museum, as part of the London Design Festival 2013 schedule, and is open to the public until November 3. If you have plans to visit the city in the coming months, this is a tip from a different program.
